What to Bring to Treatment

When preparing to head to treatment, it’s hard to know what to expect, so it’s hard to determine what you’ll need. This handy list can help you plan.

Essential:

  • Pharmacy plan information and all medications to which you are currently prescribed. Medication must be in properly labeled bottles including name, medication, dosage and frequency
  • Sunglasses/sunscreens
  • Picture ID
  • Social Security card
  • Health insurance card
  • Clothing for one week
  • Shoes (casual and recreational)
  • Sleepwear (modest)
  • Clothes hangers (plastic only)
  • Laundry soap, fabric softener and laundry bag
  • Towel and washcloth
  • Personal care items (30-day supply)
  • Paper, pens, pencils, envelopes, stamps
  • Spending money (no more than $150)
  • Quarters for laundry and vending machines

Optional:

  • Cigarettes (30-day supply)
  • Photos of friends and family
  • Favorite bedding
  • Bathing suit (modest, summer only)
  • Reading material (Bible, recovery and morally acceptable materials only)

What NOT to Bring:

  • Items containing alcohol (as the first ingredient)
  • Cigars, pipes or chewing tobacco
  • Cards, dice or any games of chance
  • Aerosol sprays
  • Electronic/entertainment equipment (radios, music devices, TVs, video games, cameras, laptops, PDA/Palm Pilot, etc.)
  • Cell phone
  • Excessive jewelry/cash/credit cards
  • Food or beverages, candy or gum
  • Liquid bleach
  • Nail polish and/or remover
  • Clothing that advertises bars, alcohol, drugs, gambling or offensive subjects
  • No sleeveless, spaghetti straps or strapless tops, short shorts or tight clothing
  • Pornographic materials
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Vehicles, bicycles
  • Pets
